A place for art lovers
The Sara Hildén art museum is a museum maintained by the city of Tampere. The collection of Finnish and foreign contemporary art owned by the Sara Hildén Foundation is permanently housed in this Art Museum, which opened to the public in 1979. The museum is located in a natural setting by a beautiful lake on the north slope of Särkänniemi in Tampere. Blending harmoniously with its surroundings, the entrance, office wing and painting galleries are located on the top floor of the two-floor building. The sculpture halls and café are on the ground floor, which has huge windows offering a wonderful view of Lake Näsijärvi and the sculpture park around the building. The collection of the Sara Hildén Foundation currently comprises about 3,300 works of art. The high artistic standard as well as the size of the collection give a representative picture of the last few decades in art. The primary purpose of the Sara Hildén Art Museum is to take care of the works included in the collection, as well as exhibiting them to the public. The museum also organises changing exhibitions. The exhibition programme includes presentations of Finnish contemporary art, as well as gatherings of high-standard, international modern art. Research work, publications and artistic education provided for children and young people form an essential part of the museum's activities. The Sara Hildén Art Museum was designed by the Pekka Ilveskoski architectural firm in Tampere. The building area of the museum is 2,500 square metres. Presentations of the collections for groups can be ordered from the museum. Access for the disabled was taken into consideration in the design of the museum. More information about the museum and the exhibitions can be found from museum's own webisites.
